Resumen
Aim: To evaluate the effect of enteral nutritional support on the nutritional status of hospitalized patients with a clinical diagnosis of leukemia at HNERM. Methods: The research was an analytical-observational study with a retrospective cohort design, analyzing 127 patient records. Sixty-nine patients received enteral feeding support (exposed), and 58 did not, with a 30-day follow-up. Document analysis was used, and a data collection form was used to record clinical and nutritional diagnoses, metabolic monitoring, and nutritional screening using the Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 (NRS-2002). Statistical analysis included the Student’s t-test for independent samples, and the relative risk (RR) was calculated on day 30 of the evaluation. Results: The average patient weight was 64.9 kg (SD ± 12.3) and the average body mass index (BMI) was 25.3 kg/m2 (SD ± 4.2). In the laboratory profile, the patients had a mean hemoglobin level of 10.5 g/ dL (SD ± 2.2). The average fasting glucose was 99 mg/ dL (SD ± 32.2), and serum albumin was reported at 3.8 g/ dL (SD ± 0.6). Alkaline phosphatase levels were 155.4 U/L (SD ± 128.3), with median AST and ALT values of 36 U/L and 50.5 U/L, respectively. Significant differences were found between the two groups in terms of weight (p=0.041), BMI (p=0.049), fasting glucose (p=0.019), serum albumin (p=0.041), and serum calcium (p=0.031). Significant differences were also observed between the two groups over time (p < 0.001). Conclusions: A significant association was found between enteral nutrition support and nutritional risk (p<0.001). Furthermore, enteral nutrition support acted as a protective factor against nutritional risk (RR=0.36).
