Effect of Two Polishing Systems on the Surface Microhardness of a Nanohybrid Composite Subjected to Carbonated Beverage

Resumen

Currently, the consumption of carbonated drinks has been increasing, especially in young people. The effect on the dental structure of these drinks has been reported in multiple studies, finding that the higher the concentration of acids, the greater the demineralization, the same happens with resin restorations. To evaluate the in vitro effect of two polishing systems on a nanohybrid resin subjected to a carbonated beverage. The present investigation was experimental, prospective, longitudinal, and analytical. The instrument that was used for data collection was the micro hardness tester. The means of the surface microhardness of the Soft-lex and Astropol type polishing systems were compared with the means of surface microhardness by applying the Lavene statistical test for the equality of variance, at a level of significance of p <0.05. Subsequently, the data were submitted to the student’s parametric test t, for the equality of means with a level of significance of p <0.05. Significant decrease in both polishing systems, with the soft-Lex® System having the greatest impact on the surface microhardness. The carbonated beverage affects the surface microhardness of a nanohybrid resin regardless of the polishing system to which it has been subjected. © (2025), (University of Dicle).
