Resumen
The study aimed to evaluate the effect of the fructooligosaccharide inulin, used as an organic prebiotic, on daily weight gain, feed conversion efficiency, and carcass yield of improved guinea pigs during the growing and fattening phase. Thirty-two weaned guinea pigs, 21 ± 3 days old, with live weights ranging from 340 to 380 g were used. They were randomly distributed in metal cages (3 guinea pigs per replicate). Insulin levels were 0, 200, 400, and 800 ppm. The study design was a randomized complete block, with sex as a blocking factor. The Tukey test was used to establish differences between means. A significative improvement (p<0.05) in daily weight gain and feed conversion was obtained with a level of 200 ppm of inulin, but without significant differences in carcass yield (p>0.05). © Los autores.
