Effect of an educational intervention on the level of knowledge of toxoplasmosis in pregnant women attending a health center on the central coast of Peru

Hiyo B.M.C.; Caballero F.Z. · Revista de Investigaciones Veterinarias del Peru (2025) · DOI: 10.15381/rivep.v36i3.28794

Resumen

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of an educational intervention on the level of knowledge of toxoplasmosis in women in the first two thirds of pregnancy who attended a maternal-child health center in Lurín, Lima, Peru, during the period July- August 2023. An evaluation instrument with multiple-choice questions was developed and applied before, after, and four months after having provided the virtual educational intervention in 31 pregnant women. The educational intervention was divided into three sessions and was provided synchronously through a virtual platform. To classify the level of knowledge, the vigesimal scale (0 to 20 points) was used. The results show that before the educational intervention, 64.5 ± 0.17% (20/31) of pregnant women had a level of knowledge classified as «poor». However, after the educational intervention, 74.2 ± 0.15% (23/31) of the participants reached a level of knowledge considered «good». In the long-term evaluation, 38.7 ± 0.17% (12/31) of the sample obtained a level of knowledge classified as «good» and «regular». It is concluded that the educational intervention had a positive effect on the level of knowledge about toxoplasmosis in pregnant women in the first or second trimester in the short and long term (p<0.05). © (2025), (Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos).
