Effect of a mixture of probiotics, prebiotics, enzymes, and minerals on productive performance and intestinal morphometry in broilers

Jara-Blas L.; Coronado-Ibarra A.; Zea-Mendoza O.; Ciriaco-Castañeda P. · Revista de Investigaciones Veterinarias del Peru (2026) · DOI: 10.15381/rivep.v37i2.33305

Resumen

This study examined the impact of a mixture of probiotics, prebiotics, enzymes, and minerals, compared to non-prebiotic feed additives (NPAs), in the diet of broiler chickens. Productive performance, intestinal morphometry, and profitability were measured. Two hundred male Cobb 500 chickens were randomly assigned to four treatment groups. Each group had five replicates of 10 birds. The treatments included: a control diet (T1), the control diet with added zinc bacitracin (0.05% zinc bacitracin and 0.03% colistin) (T2), the control diet with the mixture at 300 g/t (T3), and the same mixture at 500 g/t (T4). Chickens received mash feed ad libitum, distributed across four phases: starter (days 1–8), grower (days 9–18), first finisher (days 19–28), and second finisher (days 29–42). A completely randomized design was used, and means were compared using Duncan’s multiple range test. The findings at 42 days indicated that the mixtures (T3 and T4) showed no significant differences (p>0.05) in production indicators compared to the treatment that included added zinc bacitracin (T2). However, improvements (p<0.05) were observed in final weight and feed gain. and feed conversion ratio in T3 compared to the control group (T1). In intestinal morphometry, the height of the intestinal villi (p<0.05) in T3 exceeded that of T2 (group with APC). Furthermore, T3 generated 8% greater economic gain compared to T1. It is concluded that the addition of 300 g/t of the mixture of probiotics, prebiotics, enzymes, and minerals emerges as an alternative to APCs. © (2026), (Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos).
