Resumen
The relationship between literature and painting has been a key topic in comparative studies, particularly through the concept of ekphrasis. This study examines the ekphrastic representation in The Book [of Paintings] of Books by Quint Buchholz, comparing one of its illustrations with Herta Müller’s short story A Hundred Grains of Corn. The methodology follows the theoretical approaches of Kibédi Varga (2000), Heffernan (1993), and Pimentel (2003), combining a thematic-compositional, stylistic, and intertextual analysis. The results show how both works explore frame-breaking and metafictional play through different visual and narrative strategies. While the illustration employs pictorial ellipsis to suggest an interstice between reality and fiction, the short story uses metaphor, hyperbole, and syllepsis. The study concludes that, although both works are autonomous, they engage in an intermedial dialogue that enhances the understanding of image-text interaction within the Ut pictura poesis framework. © Editorial Universidad de Sevilla.
