Early detection of heart failure in diabetic patients: Beyond the ejection fraction

Resumen
Heart failure is one of the main causes of death in diabetic patients. The left ventricular ejection fraction compromise is delayed. The assessment of other parameters of myocardial dysfunction, like the longitudinal deformation of the left ventricle, diastolic function, and left atrial function, can help in the timely identification of myocardial compromise. This allows the necessary measures to be adopted in order to reduce the development of adverse cardiovascular events in this population group.
