Resumen
Seed is the main input for the establishment and development of crops, and the profitability of a country’s agricultural production systems depends on its availability, access and use of quality seeds. The aim was to analyze the dynamics and characteristics, its institutional, regulatory, human and technological components of the seed systems in Peru. 90% of seed producers and users correspond to informal systems, while 10% involve formal systems supervised by the seed authority. Formal systems prioritize the production, marketing and use of improved varieties, although they have gradually incorporated native cultivars. There is little appropriation of declared quality seed where quality is guaranteed by the farmers themselves. There is a renewed legal framework, however, it requires reviewing the regulations that allow establishing dynamic seed relationships between the formal and informal sectors and public seed policies allowing access to quality seeds through the adoption of declared quality seed.
