Resumen
In recent years, Venezuelan immigrants entering Peru face not only the difficulties of migration policies, but also obstacles such as social, cultural and linguistic barriers and, above all, attitudes of rejection, such as xenophobia. The objective is to analyze and describe the attitudes, as well as the linguistic perceptions of people living in the district of Los Olivos (Lima, Peru) towards the speech of the Venezuelan immigrant; also, the characteristics that allow them to differentiate between a variety (Peruvian Spanish and Venezuelan Spanish) more and less correct from speech. Methodologically, the research is of mixed approach. Among the results, it was found that linguistic biases and ideologies exist not only with respect to the standard language, but also in relation to the idea that there should be uniformity in speech. As for the conclusions, it is highlighted that attitudes vary in the three components and that there is a confrontation between what is considered correct and incorrect which originates, on the one hand, the censorship of the Venezuelan immigrant’s speech; on the other hand, the rejection of any form of speech that deviates from the path towards the longed-for perfection that speaking correctly represents, in the imaginary. © Los autores.
