Resumen
Despite the expansion of fintech in emerging markets, empirical evidence on its performance in vulnerable urban areas in Latin America is still limited. This correlationalpredictive study examines the factors associated with the adoption of digital wallets and their relationship with the transformation of financial practices in marginalized Peruvian populations. Using a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional design, 384 residents of human settlements in Piura were surveyed using an instrument validated by expert judgment and exploratory factor analysis. The results indicate that more than half of the participants achieve a high level of digital financial inclusion, with significant associations according to gender, age, and district of residence. Multivariate analysis identified age group, transaction amount, and perception of security as the main predictors. The main conceptual contribution lies in demonstrating that, in contexts of Latin American urban marginality, fintech adoption follows differentiated patterns that can be interpreted from the articulation of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology and theory of planned behavior, extending the scope of these frameworks to a geographical and population domain underrepresented in the literature.
