Dietary patterns and risk of dyslipidemia in Peruvian adults: cross-sectional analysis of a national survey

Apaza Durand A.J.; Inocente Camones M.A.; Gomez Rutti Y.Y.; Dora Moscoso J.M. · Nutricion Clinica y Dietetica Hospitalaria (2026) · DOI: 10.12873/ncdh-2026-128

Resumen

Objectives: To evaluate the association between dietary patterns and dyslipidemia risk in Peruvian adults using nationally representative data. Methods: This was a cross-sectional analytical study based on secondary data from the National Institute of Health of Peru. Dietary intake was assessed using a 24-hour recall. Dietary patterns were identified using principal component analysis (PCA). Dyslipidemia risk was defined based on lipid profile parameters. Weighted logistic regression models with robust standard errors were used, considering the complex sample design. Results: 912 adults were included (mean age: 38.0 ± 11.7 years; BMI: 27.1 ± 5.0 kg/m2). The prevalence of dyslipidemia risk was 71.2%. No significant associations were found between dietary patterns and dyslipidemia risk. Age (OR: 1.03; 95% CI: 1.01–1.04) and BMI (OR: 1.10; 95% CI: 1.06–1.14) were significantly associated with the outcome. Conclusions: Dietary patterns were not associated with dyslipidemic risk. Age and BMI were key determinants, highlighting the importance of individual factors in metabolic health.
