Resumen
The paper presented is based on research work in progress on the development of Virtual Reality (VR) training software for the safe operation of heavy machinery, specifically on the crawler excavator model. The research involved the initial analysis of the existing literature on the use of virtual reality in training and learning environments. It also includes the preliminary design that will include the 3D modeling of the machinery and extra components, the use of Unreal Engine 5 for the development of the simulator, and the creation of the levels contemplated to provide a progressive training experience. The development of the project aims to reduce the risks associated with the handling and manipulation of this heavy machinery and to provide a safe learning tool that will allow operators to continuously improve their skills.
