Development of a Toxic Gas Exposure Time Monitoring and Control System for Occupational Safety in Industrial Environments

Guadalupe P.R.; Paucara J.D. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2025) · DOI: 10.18687/laccei2025.1.1.1914

Resumen

This study develops an automated system for monitoring and controlling the exposure time to toxic gases in industrial environments, aligned with OSHA/CAL occupational safety regulations. The implementation is carried out using a PLC LOGO 8.4, which allows efficient processing of the gas sensor signals and their transmission in real time through the MQTT protocol to monitoring platforms such as Node-Red. The system incorporates an interface with dynamic graphics, historical data logging and automatic notifications via WhatsApp and Remote-Red, facilitating user-friendly and remote monitoring that is easy to understand. In addition, it adjusts the exposure time according to the concentration of detected gases. The results show a fast response (less than 10 s), activating alarms and automatic ventilation, reinforcing its usefulness in occupational risk prevention.
