Resumen
Objective: To technologically develop a gel based on Babaco (Carica pentagona) as a dental formulation for caries removal. Materials and methods: In vitro-ex vivo study, which used biological samples (extracted teeth) to verify the effect of caries removal by means of a mechanical chemical system, developed based on pharmaceutical preparations that extracted the active principle from the Babaco plant (Carica pentagona). Four groups of 16 caries extracted teeth each (8 deciduous and 8 permanent) were organized and the active principle obtained by percolation, soxleth, distillation and maceration methods, respectively, was applied to them. Dentin scoop was applied to remove caries in half of the tooth cavity, in the other half the active principle was also used, all excavations were standardized and performed by the same operator. To evaluate the effectiveness of the chemical-mechanical caries removal, an expert was asked to evaluate the final roughness of the treated pieces and then evaluated microscopically. Results: In terms of roughness, the distillation, percolation and Soxleth groups showed a non-significant difference compared to the control. The removal in the group worked with the product of the maceration method proved to be significantly more effective than the use of the dentin spoon. Conclusion: The maceration method was the one that presented better results, both in the macroscopic qualitative evaluation and in the microscopic qualitative evaluation compared to the use of a dentin spoon.
