Deterministic Assessment of Solution Sensitivity for Fatigue Crack Growth Path Validation Benchmarking

Loghin A.; Berrios D. · Fatigue and Fracture of Engineering Materials and Structures (2026) · DOI: 10.1111/ffe.70477

Resumen

A 3D FEA LEFM based modeling approach is used to demonstrate crack path solution accuracy and sensitivity using six mixed-mode (I + II) fatigue crack growth measurements as references. The physical measurements were obtained from mechanical testing of slightly different tapered double cantilever beam specimen geometries. Solution sensitivity is addressed in a deterministic manner by quantifying the geometric deviations of each physical specimen from the nominal design specifications and by considering uncertainties in the assumed position of the initial crack.
