Resumen
OBJECTIVE: A local screening was implemented with the aim to determine the prevalence of the high risk human papilloma virus infection through the hybrids capture 2 methods in the women from Lima, between 2012 and 2013. METHOD: The cross sectional research of 4 300 women between 30 and 49 years of age from the health centers of Lima Norte and Centro of Peru were included. They were co-tested: The hybrid captures 2 tests and the liquid based cytology. RESULTS: The prevalence of the high risk human papilloma virus infection was 15 % (668/4 300). Of this group the liquid based cytology found in 12 9 % (86/668) of the atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance; 14.1 % (94/668) of the low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion and 4.8 % (32/668) of the high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion. The age (P = 0.014) and number of sexual partners (P = 0.018) were related to high risk of the human papilloma virus infection. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of the high risk human papilloma virus was consistent with that reported by the national and international studies. The implementation of the co-study in the Peruvian screening system could improve early care, reducing costs and raising benefits over traditional approaches.
