DESIGN TO COST APPROACH APPLIED TO ISOLATED MICROGRIDS

Resumen

The global demand for cleaner energy encouraged the development of new challenging technologies. This led to significant research effort on microgrids regarding large-scale deployment and exploration of renewable energy sources. In this context, EDF R&D has defined a design-to-cost approach, i.e. a practical methodology to iteratively find the optimal techno-economic solution which fulfils the customer constraints. To support this approach, EDF R&D has developed PREMO, a microgrid techno-economic predesigning tool presenting a low technical complexity level paired with reliable technical and financial results. We present in this article the main functionalities, the modelling aspects and the gap PREMO intends to address. PREMO innovating features and performances are then demonstrated on a real EDF project, in South America.
