Resumen
This study aimed to design and simulate a wastewater treatment system for the locality of Namora, Cajamarca, using computational modeling to optimize process efficiency and ensure compliance with Environmental Quality Standards. A quantitative, non-experimental approach was employed, based on system simulation using STOAT software, considering representative influent parameters, including a flow rate of 15 L/s, BOD5 of 300 mg/L, TSS of 250 mg/L, total nitrogen of 35 mg/L, and total phosphorus of 7 mg/L. The system was configured with pretreatment, primary sedimentation, a UASB reactor, and tertiary treatment units, and different operational scenarios were evaluated by varying the hydraulic retention time. The results showed that a hydraulic retention time of 8 hours achieves removal efficiencies above 85% for organic matter and 90% for suspended solids, reducing BOD5 to 30 mg/L and TSS to 40 mg/L, thereby complying with environmental regulations. Additionally, dynamic analysis indicated a progressive reduction of contaminants and nutrient transformation, although an increase in ammonia and phosphorus was observed, suggesting the need for complementary treatment processes. Overall, the proposed model proves to be an effective tool for optimizing the design and operation of wastewater treatment plants in rural contexts, contributing to system sustainability and improved effluent quality.
