Design and evaluation of a low-cost ergonomic chair with resistant materials for workstations

León León R.A.; Lázaro Aquino D.T.; Mantilla Vásquez G.J. · CISCI - Conferencia Iberoamericana en Sistemas, Cibernetica e Informatica (2024) · DOI: 10.54808/cisci2024.01.432

Resumen

The objective of this research was to design and evaluate a low-cost ergonomic chair made of resistant materials for workstations. Given the need to address the postural and ergonomic problems that affect a large number of workers, a viable and affordable solution was proposed. A quantitative and applied approach was adopted, using SolidWorks software and finite element analysis to virtually model the ergonomic chair, considering key factors such as anthropometry, biomechanics and ergonomic recommendations for proper posture. Inexpensive materials such as foam, fiberglass-reinforced plastic, steel tubing, reinforced nylon and breathable polyester fabric were evaluated, prioritizing strength, durability and comfort. In addition, as part of the design process, stress, strain and safety factor calculations were performed to ensure the load capacity and structural integrity of the proposed design. The results obtained show a minimum safety factor of 1.587, indicating that the ergonomic chair can support loads of up to 130 kg without significant deformation. This optimized, ergonomic design contributes to improving product quality, optimizing operational efficiency, and placing the company in a more competitive position in the local market. © CISCI - Simposium Iberoamericano en Educacion, Cibernetica e Informatica 2024.
