Resumen
Dental aesthetics can have a specific impact on a population that includes adolescents and young adults, as well as being exposed to influence of various factors. The aim of this study was to determine the demographic, socioeconomic and educational factors associated with psychosocial impact of dental aesthetics. A virtual survey was conducted with 374 medical students using an instrument with 34 questions about age, sex, socioeconomic level, type of university and PIDAQ questionnaire to evaluate impact of dental aesthetics. The Chi square test was used to evaluate the association between variables. The medium socioeconomic level was the most frequent among university students with 40.6%, private university was more frequent in 54.8%, most frequent age between 16 - 26 years and male sex predominated. It was found that dental esthetics self-confidence domain was proportionally related to socioeconomic level (p=0.005), psychological impact (p=0.001) and social impact (p=0.001) domains were influenced by type of university and dental esthetics concern domain was not influenced by any sociodemographic factor (p>0.05). In conclusion, socioeconomic level had a significant influence on self-confidence in dental esthetics and that type of university was related to psychological and social impact produced by dental esthetics. In multivariate analysis, studying at a private university is three times more likely to have a low psychosocial impact of dental aesthetics.
