Resumen
The present study aims to analyze the covariational reasoning of students when solving tasks that involve functional relationships by conducting GeoGebra simulations of filling containers. The notions of mental action and levels of covariational reasoning are considered as a theoretical construct, and the case study as a research method. As a result, different strategies are identified to graphically represent the relationship between the height of water inside a container that changes shape, and the volume of water that enters it constantly. The strategies are related to student covariational reasoning and include using areas of geometric figures to relate both variables and construct a finite set of points in the plane to graphically represent functional relationships. In conclusion, the simulations performed with GeoGebra allow students to visualize how simultaneous changes occur between two variables, and thus recognize functional relationships as a dynamic covariation of variables. © (2025), (Centro de Informacion Tecnologica).
