Resumen

Gastrointestinal parasitism in captive psittacine birds is a worldwide health problem that is manifested mainly by forced adaptation to captivity. The aim of this study was to determine the coprological prevalence of parasitic genera in psittacine birds in three custody centres located in the district of Rumisapa, Lamas (Centre 1); Sector Ahuashiyacu Alto, la Banda de Shilcayo, San Martín (Centre 2) and Sector Bocatoma, Tarapoto, San Martín (Centre 3), Peru. In total, 40 samples were taken from each custody centre in 11 repetitions and processed using qualitative techniques (direct smear, sedimentation technique and flotation technique). The prevalence found corresponded to Ascaridia sp. (10.83%) (13/120), Strongylus type eggs (10.0%) (12/120) and Capillaria sp. (8.33%) (10/120). It was also determined that Centre 2 had a higher prevalence (13.3%) (16/40) compared to the other centres. Monoparasitism (94%) was significantly higher than biparasitism (6%). A significant statistical association was found between the prevalence of parasitism and the origin of the custody centres (p<0.05). © Los autore.
