Continuous Improvement Tools and Their Impact on the Storage Costs of a Trading Company

Cabanillas Rabanal M.A.; Castillo Legoas D.L.; Miñan Olivos G.S. · CISCI - Conferencia Iberoamericana en Sistemas, Cibernetica e Informatica (2025) · DOI: 10.54808/cisci2025.01.407

Resumen

This applied, quantitative, descriptive-propositional study examined the logistics inefficiencies of Comercial Navarrete S.A.C. and proposed a continuous-improvement plan built around ABC classification, the EOQ policy, a 5S programme, and the Business-Model Canvas. Hidden costs were identified through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and cleansing of historical records; a discrete-event simulation with 1 000 Monte Carlo replications was then developed to appraise the prospective performance of the tool portfolio. Simulated results suggest that the intervention could halve the historical stock-out rate (to ≈ 5 %), curb obsolescence and returns, and yield an estimated net saving of PEN 13 428.50 against an initial outlay of PEN 11 970—equivalent to a first-year return of roughly 112 %. Sensitivity analysis indicated that profitability would depend on sustaining an effective saving ≥ 70 % of the expected value and on containing implementation overruns. The study concludes that the phased sequence 5S → Canvas → ABC → EOQ could turn the warehouse from a reactive cost centre into a strategic asset, provided that operational discipline and statistical process control are firmly maintained.
