Construction Defects and Their Relationship to Complaints in Puno-Peru Building Projects

Vitulas-Quille Y.; Hiquisi-Cáceres A. · Smart Innovation, Systems and Technologies (2026) · DOI: 10.1007/978-3-032-24262-4_5

Resumen

In the Puno region in Peru, construction deficiencies and the consequent legal complaints are increasing due to the omission of norms, exposing responsible professionals to administrative, civil, and criminal liability. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the degree of construction deficiencies and the number of complaints in building projects in the Puno region during 2022. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing a non-experimental, descriptive-correlational design that incorporated surveys and documentary analysis for data collection. Using Spearman’s rho statistical test, we obtained a coefficient of ρ = 0.768. This value indicates a high positive correlation between the study variables, confirming that a greater frequency or severity of deficiencies leads to a proportional increase in complaints. The findings highlight the critical need to strengthen supervision and ensure strict regulatory compliance to improve the quality and legal integrity of public works. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2026.
