Resumen
Introduction: Motivation for meaningful learning in scientific research requires contextualized instruments that integrate intrinsic, extrinsic, and affective-emotional dimensions. Objectives: To propose the development and psychometric validation of the ROMA-HB scale to measure such motivation in Human Medicine students. Methods: This quantitative, cross-sectional instrumental study was conducted at Universidad Ricardo Palma. A convenience sample of 120 students completed the 26-item ROMA-HB scale, which includes three dimensions and a five-point Likert scale. The items were based on meaningful learning, Self-Determination Theory (SDT), self-efficacy theory, and Pintrich's motivational model. Five PhD-level judges assessed content validity using a binary rating. Reliability was estimated using Cronbach's alpha (α), and agreement was evaluated with Fleiss' Kappa (κ). Results: The agreement was acceptable in terms of pertinence (κ = 0.307) and relevance (κ = 0.320), while grammatical construction showed 100 agreement, which did not allow for estimating κ. Internal consistency was excellent, with α = 0.928, and high across dimensions: α = 0.927 for intrinsic motivation, α = 0.821 for extrinsic motivation, and α = 0.895 for affective-emotional dimension. Item-total correlations ranged from 0.42 to 0.81; two extrinsic items had correlations < 0.30, though excluding them did not improve the global α. Conclusion: The ROMA-HB scale demonstrated content validity and reliability; therefore, it can guide didactic strategies in scientific research. © Article published by the Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana of Universidad Ricardo Palma.
