Resumen
This article analyzed the competency of Design and Development of Solutions to Complex Engineering Problems among students from accredited and non-accredited programs. The goal was to determine whether accredited programs place greater emphasis on this competency among their students than non-accredited programs. Complex engineering problems are considered to present constraints related to health, public safety, life-cycle costing, zero-carbon, and resource, cultural, social, economic, and environmental aspects. A data collection instrument was developed and applied to a project completed by students divided into two groups: a control group and an experimental group. The results show that the program accreditation influences study competency. Nonparametric tests were used for statistical verification.
