Competencies of the research teacher in the era of artificial intelligence: Challenges and opportunities in higher education

Resumen

Modernity and the Fourth Industrial Revolution have catalyzed significant changes in the development of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. This technology has burst onto the scene in society to enhance knowledge constructs; however, in terms of computational and human competencies, university faculty researchers have fallen behind the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence, which has emerged as a cutting-edge socio-technological phenomenon. This study, employing documentary methodology to reflect on this phenomenon, explores the necessary competencies of university faculty researchers to overcome challenges and generate opportunities for applying knowledge constructs derived from research, using artificial intelligence tools. The lack of literature on the technological competencies of faculty researchers using Artificial Intelligence tools has been a guiding principle in this study, leading to a systematized and proactive reflection, aligned with existing literature, on the technical, human, and intrapersonal competencies necessary for faculty to facilitate research within this technological framework.
