Resumen

The objective of the study was to compare the productive parameters of Bos taurus × Bos indicus cows in both, semi–stabled and extensive production systems in three localities of the high tropics of Oxapampa, Peru. A total of 325 Criollo cows from 18 agricultural units were evaluated, analyzing the following parameters: daily milk production (PDL)), birth weight (PN), lactation duration (DL), weaning weight (PAD), farm retention rate (TPVF)(FRR), and percentage of cows in production (PVP)(PCP). No significant differences (P=0.4998) were found in DMP based on the origin of the animals (Oxapampa, Chontabamba, and Huancabamba districts) or the farm (P=0.0808). However, the semi–stabled system showed a significantly higher DMP (9.32 ± 0.72 L) compared to the extensive system (4.78 ± 1.57 L; P=0.0001). Likewise, BW and WW were higher in the semi–stabled system compared to the extensive system (38.08 ± 0.91 kg vs. 35.59 ± 1.35 kg; P=0.0154) and (161.72 ± 4.37 kg vs. 149.25 ± 2.66 kg; P=0.0002), respectively. LD was also significantly longer (P=0.0085) in the semi–stabled system (192.79 ± 10.87 days) compared to the extensive system (173.22 ± 5.23 days). These results denote the importance of adopting semi–intensive systems in tropical areas to improve productive efficiency, contributing to the sustainability and profitability of livestock systems. © (2025), (Revista Cientifica de la Facultad de Veterinaria).
