Resumen
Globally, the freight transport and mining sector are crucial pillars for the economic development of a country. However, its dependence on using heavy trucks to carry out its activities entails high consumption of fossil fuels, generating significant greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This article analyzes the environmental impact of Euro V trucks with Euro III trucks, focusing on the reduction of GHG emissions and the mitigation strategies used by Volvo Peru. The emissions of carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), hydrocarbons (HC) and particulate matter (PM) of three Volvo trucks models were compared during two years of operation in the aforementioned industries. Indirect measurement and statistical modeling techniques were used to analyze and quantify emissions. The results showed reductions of up to 86% in GHG emissions from Euro V trucks. These findings highlight the importance of technological innovations in heavy vehicles to reduce their impact on the environment and offer valuable information for the development of future public policies of vehicle sustainability.
