Resumen

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of three balanced anaesthesia protocols on vital functions and recovery time in feline ovariohysterectomy. Thirty-two Creole cats older than 6 months (ASA I and ASA II) were used. The animals were distributed into three groups and received three protocols with similar premedication but different inducers: 3 mg/kg of propofol (n=11), 7 mg/kg of ketamine (n=11), and 5 mg/kg of tiletamine (n=10). All three protocols were maintained with isoflurane (1.5% v/v). Physiological constants were monitored every 2 min (intra surgical) and every 4 min (post-surgical) using a multiparameter monitor. The effect of the three protocols on vital functions and protocol duration was evaluated using analysis of variance and the Tukey test (α=0.05). The protocols in the intra-surgical period did not influence (except in protocol 1), blood pressure, oxygen saturation, CO2 at the end of expiration and capillary refill time, except for respiratory rate, cardiovascular function and body temperature. Protocol 1 (propofol) caused the depression of heart rate, pulse and temperature (37.3 °C) and had a shorter duration (63.8 min). Protocol 2 (ketamine) kept heart rate and pulse slightly constant, but the temperature decreased to 36.8 °C and had an intermediate duration of 88.4 min. Protocol 3 (tiletamine) has a slightly influence on the decrease in heart rate, pulse and temperature (37 °C) and had a longer duration (125.9 min). In conclusion, the three anaesthetic protocols were clinically effective in intra-surgical immobilization, maintaining vital functions within acceptable limits, although recovery times were varied widely between protocols.
