Resumen
This study assesses the impact of introducing automated vehicles (AVs) on both the operational and traffic performance of a four-legged intersection in Comas, Lima. An initial diagnostic phase was conducted using AI-based traffic counts, drone-based data collection, and regulatory evaluation, followed by the modeling and calibration of existing conditions in PTV VISSIM. Finally, a comparative analysis was incorporated using the findings of study, which examines the effects of different AV driving behaviors and penetration levels on delays, queue formation, and overall operational performance. This integration enables the projection of how the proposed geometric and signal redesign would perform under future vehicle automation scenarios. The results indicate that the proposed improvement significantly reduces delay, queue length, and signal cycle duration, while enhancing the level of service. However, in a prospective scenario involving the adoption of AVs, an equivalent improvement in operational efficiency is not observed.
