Comparative Analysis and Design Optimization of Drone Arms with Vibration Assessment

Luis Flores O.; Oscar Lostaunau N.; Elvis Jara A.; Moises Nunez O. · IEEE Andescon, ANDESCON 2024 - Proceedings (2024) · DOI: 10.1109/andescon61840.2024.10755833

Resumen

Ahstract-This paper introduces a comparative vibration analysis focusing on the selection of sensors and mounts tailored for drone design. As the global drone market continues to expand, many design and manufacturing companies lack a robust system for analyzing vibrations in their designs, leading to potential drone losses during flight. To address this gap, we evaluate the performance of two sensor types (accelerometers and piezoelectric sensors) and three mount configurations (mechanical, double tape, and glue) in capturing vibration data. In both tests, a drone motor with an unbalanced load serves as the vibration source, with its speed controlled using a servo tester. We utilize an embedded system (MyRIO) for real-time data acquisition and storage, enabling offline processing in Matlab with Fourier transform analysis. Our findings presented through magnitude spectrum graphs in the frequency domain, reveal harmonics, peak frequencies, and potential anomalies. Ultimately, our study identifies the accelerometer and mechanical mount as optimal choices for accurate data acquisition and analysis in drone design.
