Resumen
Active communication among students is a learning strategy that facilitates the exchange of ideas and team problem-solving. The objective of this research was to analyze collaborative learning strategies and cognitive load among university students in Peru. A multi-method design was used, integrating a singlegroup quasi-experimental post-test design and an ex post facto correlational design. Data from 69 students in the Language program at the Faculty of Education and Communication Sciences at the National University of Trujillo, Peru, were analyzed. The results reveal a significant negative correlation between collaborative learning and cognitive load, and a positive correlation with the relevant cognitive load. No relationship was found with intrinsic load. The dimensions of communication and dialogue, as well as reflection and continuous improvement of collaborative learning, showed potential correlations from the perspective of optimizing cognitive load. It is concluded that learning strategies entail detailing and establishing inclusive criteria for collaborative learning to optimize cognitive load in Peruvian higher education. © (2025), (Universidad del Zulia).
