Resumen
Introduction: Cognitive reserve is considered as a dynamic factor that develops from exposure to the environment and an active life both mentally and physically, that is, the ability of the brain to cope with changes arising from age or neuropathological problems. Objective: To analyze whether the cognitive reserve and its dimensions (academic, intellectual, and recreational activity) have the ability to predict cognitive impairment in older adults of a fraternity of older adults in Quillabamba-Peru. Methodology: Predictive study, cross-sectional. We evaluated 117 adults over 60 years of age, of both sexes (70.9% women and 29.1% men). The Cognitive Reserve Questionnaire (CRC) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment Basic (MoCA-B) were used as measurement instruments. Results: The cognitive reserve and its dimensions have a high standardized and significant predictive load (β=0,710), explaining up to 50.4% of the behavior of cognitive impairment. Conclusion: Cognitive reserve is a relevant predictor of cognitive impairment in older adults.
