Resumen

Introduction: Prostate cancer (PC) is the second most common neoplasm in men and is caused by the rapid growth and division of abnormal cells. Objective: To describe the clinical-therapeutic profile of patients with PC at a public hospital in Chiclayo, Peru, from 2016 to 2021. M ethods: A descriptive, cross-sectional, and retrospective observational study in 120 patients. Data were collected by documenting medical records. Results: 50.8 % of the study population was between 61 and 75 years of age, and 51.7 % had a normal nutritional status. Dysuria (45.0 %), nocturia (39.2 %), joint pain (45.0 %), and frequency (31.7 %) were the most frequent clinical characteristics. Mean hemoglobin and median total prostate-specific antigen (PSA) was 12.0 g/dL (SD=1.69) and 100 ng/mL (C1-C3=38.7-301.3), respectively; the lower levels of hemoglobin (p=0.045) and higher levels of total PSA (p=0.008) were related to the presentation of metastases. Clinical stage IV (77.7 %) was the most frequent, and 72.4 % presented high risk according to the D'Amico classification. Regarding treatment, 60.8 % received only total androgen blockade (BATD), 38.3 % bisphosphonates, 33.3 % orchiectomy + BATD, and 18.3 % castration-resistant chemotherapy. Conclusions: Nearly eight out of 10 patients with PC presented clinical stage IV and high risk and were mostly treated with BATD, bisphosphonates, and orchiectomy. Likewise, low hemoglobin levels and elevated total PSA were related to metastasis.
