Resumen
Introduction. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection is common in children and causes overcrowding of health services. Objective. Describe the characteristics of patients with RSV infection. Methods. This observational, descriptive, and retrospective study used data from patients hospitalized with RSV infection at the National Institute of Child Health-Breña (INSN-B) from 2018 to 2023. Descriptive statistics were used to describe epidemiological, clinical, and treatment characteristics. Results. We included 95 patients. Ninety-seven percent of cases were from 2021-2023, and 51.6% were in infants younger than 6 months. Prematurity and heart disease were the most common antecedents. Salbutamol, corticosteroids, and antibiotics were frequently used. 22.3% had hypoxemia upon admission, and 10%were admitted to the ICU. Conclusions. RSV infection affected younger children and those with at-risk antecedents. Clinical presentation and treatment were varied. © (2025), (Anales de la Facultad de Medicina). All rights reserved.
