Resumen

The contribution of organic matter to the total porosity in shale formations is mainly adsorbed in micropores and mesopores, which have a strong influence on the productive life of the reservoir, prolonging the productive life of the reservoir. An incorrect understanding of the total porosity and factors that influence it could lead to the rejection of potential productive zones during the initial stage of exploration. This research aims to characterize pores from 2 to 50 nm by low pressure N2 adsorption in conjunction with geochemical and mineralogical analysis of 5 samples from the Muerto Formation, acquired from the Lancones basin. The results indicated that the specific surface area is in the range of 0.58 to 3. 41 m2/ g values according to the oil and condensate generation window. In the pore size distribution, the presence of micropores was not observed; for the mesopores their distribution consists of two main ranges from 4 to 10 nm and from 20 to 50 nm, the porosities found were from 1.8 to 8.2%, being the average contribution of the mesopores to the total porosity is 35%.
