CHARACTERIZATION OF THE ABIOTIC CONDITIONS OF THE ECOSYSTEM USING SATELLITE IMAGES: APPLICATION IN THE CUCHIMACHAY RAVINE IN SAN JERONIMO DE SURCO

León J.; Ortiz B.; Rojas Y.; Santillán L. · Ecologia Aplicada (2025) · DOI: 10.21704/rea.v24i1.2273

Resumen

Characterization of biotic and abiotic factors is a necessary procedure for ecosystem management. In this context, we developed a characterization of the biotope of the Cuchimachay ravine in San Jeronimo de Surco, Lima. Satellite images of moisture index and moisture stress of the study area from June 8, 2024 were obtained through the Sentinel-2 satellite at L2A level. Images in Aster version 003 format were obtained from the ASTER Global Digital Elevation Model, images, providing a digital elevation model. The study area fluctuates between 2 075 and 2 400 meters above sea level. The eastern slope has a greater number of altitudinal levels. The slope map was made with the digital elevation model of the area with corrections and the Slope tool from Surface. For the radiation map, the tool found in Spatial Analyst tools, Solar Radiation, Area Solar Radiation was used. The slope model shows that the flattest areas are located towards the northwest of the ravine, specifically at the bottom and in the areas closest to the populated center. The western slope is the one that presents an extremely steep slope, and it also presents the highest levels of radiation, above 4 500 Kwh/m2. The highest moisture stress is also present on the western slope. Six biotopes were delineated: arid, semi-arid, humid, agriculture, dry brook, and brook without water, with the arid one being the largest in extent.
