Resumen
This article describes archaeological research conducted at the pre-Hispanic monumental site of Cerro Malabrigo, located in the northern part of the Chicama Valley on the north coast of Peru. Our data indicate that the site was constructed at the beginning of the Early Intermediate Period (200 bc-ad 600). We present the results of excavations conducted at a section of the monumental architecture. We provide an analysis of the ceramic material and carbon dates associated with this architecture. We then summarize these data in relation to the socio-political context in which Cerro Malabrigo developed assessing its relationship to other sites in the Chicama area and neighbouring valleys during the 2nd century bc.
