Resumen

Introduction: As the global prevalence of diabetes continues to increase, it is important to understand both the progress and challenges ahead and to explore future prospects for improving the management of care for people with this disease. Objective: To analyze the progress, challenges and prospects for the management of adults with diabetes. Methods: A narrative review of the specialized literature on health management for people with diabetes was conducted. The advanced search was performed in databases: PubMed, Scopus, Scienc Direct. The keywords used were: "Diabetes management", "Diabetes care", "Diabetes care management", "Diabetes care model", "Diabetes management", "Diabetes care". Exhaustively reviewed 09 articles, which met the eligibility criteria, which included having the keywords in the title, being written in Spanish, English or Portuguese, having been conducted between 2018 and 2022 and free access. The study was conducted from November 01, 2021 to January 22, 2023. Conclusions: The management of diabetes in the adult population presents challenges related to equal access to health services, a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach, as well as the implementation of educational programs. Health services must guarantee access to specialized care and reduce the cost of drugs and supplies. Each country faces unique challenges and advances.
