Burmeister's porpoise Phocoena spinipinnis Burmeister, 1865

Reyes J.C.; Brownell R.L., Jr. · Coastal Dolphins and Porpoises: Ridgway and Harrison's Handbook of Marine Mammals, Volume 1 (2024) · DOI: 10.1016/b978-0-443-13746-4.00008-1

Resumen

This chapter addresses one of the least known species of small cetaceans, Burmeister's porpoise Phocoena spinipinnis, present in coastal waters of South America. Through an extensive review of past and recent published information, the value of what is summarized here is that it includes results of increasing research on this species, and reveals very challenging opportunities for young researchers to learn and contribute to understanding of a small, little-known cetacean species in a changing world.
