Resumen
The Chilean Flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis), locally known as Parihuana, Pariona or Paruela is found along the Peruvian Andean lakes, lagoons and wetlands from Lake Titicaca in Puno to Junín or Chinchaycocha lake in Junín Department, and along the seacoast from the Ite wetlands in Tacna to the Tumbes mangroves near the border with Ecuador. Here we report on five historical and recent localities as breeding sites in Peru, the first in the Ite wetlands, the second in Lake Salinas (Arequipa), the third in Lake Yaurihuiri (Ayacucho), the fourth Lake Chinchaycocha, and the fifth and the most important being the La Niña lagoon (Piura), where we recorded at least 15.000 individuals and approximately 7.000 chicks. The latter is currently considered to be the main breeding site for Chilean Flamingo in Peru and the most northerly throughout its range.
