Resumen
The poultry birds contribute to the sustainability of agropecuary systems in rural communities through species diversity, cultural significance, and traditional breeding practices. This study aimed to ethnologically, biomorphometrically, and phaneroptically biotype the Gamecock (Gallus gallus), whose population is concentrated in the Arequipa region of Peru. Currently raised for cockfighting, its breeding could be considered for alternative production systems or as a source of biodiversity. Eighty specimens were evaluated, and a frequency analysis was conducted, providing absolute and percentage fre-quencies of the variables under study. The obtained results are as follows: LPi 13.70±0.51 cm, LCu 13.74±1.10 cm, Pto 39.42±2.52 cm, LAl 21.40±1.81 cm, LAlp 9.47±0.79 cm, LAlm 8.48±0.79 cm, LAld 7.45±0.80 cm, LMs 10.28±0.79 cm, LPa 13.40±1.17 cm, CPa 10.62±1.02 cm, LCor 38.42±3.56 cm. In phaneroptic characteristics, 57.50% of specimens were identified as ajisecos, 8.75% as white, 3.75% as cinnamon, 7.50% as gray, 8.75% as black, 3.75% as fawn, 5.00% as ash-colored, 2.50% as black roosters, and 2.50% as speckled roosters, all with normal feather type. 85% of gamecocks had yellow shanks, 5% had white shanks, and 10% had black shanks. Skin color was yellow in 78.75% and white in 21.25%, 75.00% of gamecocks exhibited yellow beaks, 8.70% had white beaks, and 16.25% had black beaks. In conclusion, gamecocks were found to be hypome-tric, longilineal, predominantly ajiseco in color with normal plumage, and with shanks, skin, and beak predominantly yellow. This information establishes the theoretical foundation for future research and genetic characterization of the Gamecock.
