Resumen
The purpose of the study was to investigate the antibacterial capacity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), biosynthesized with extracts of queñua (Polylepis racemosa), in the influent of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) of the department of Cusco, Peru. The queñua extracts were prepared by maceration, using distilled water and a 50% hydroethanolic mixture as solvents. The biosynthesis was carried out by mixing 0.1 M AgNO3 with the prepared extracts, then the effect of the biosynthesis pH, temperature, and the percentage of ethanol concentration on the size of the AgNPs was studied. The results revealed that the optimal conditions to obtain hydrodynamic sizes of 58.68 nm and stable after 11 weeks of biosynthesis were when aqueous extract was used with pH of 10 and a temperature of 20 ºC. The antibacterial activity of the AgNPs was evaluated in 500 mL of wastewater with an initial load 33 × 106 NMP/100 mL of total and thermotolerant coliforms, the findings indicated that the doses of AgNPs eradicated almost 100% of these contaminants, suggesting that AgNPs are a potential antibacterial agent.
