Biochemistry: Importance and Teaching Methodologies in Higher Education

Seminario-Córdova R.A. · Educacion Quimica (2026) · DOI: 10.22201/fq.18708404e.2026.3.93717

Resumen

The objective of this study was to investigate the methodological strategies used in teaching biochemistry at the university level, as well as the importance of this subject for the education of higher education students. To this end, a literature review was conducted using a five-step approach (question formulation, article location, study selection, analysis, and report preparation) in Scopus and ERIC covering the period 2019-2024. It was found that teaching biochemistry allows students to understand complex processes associated with the behavior of molecules and is essential for training professionals with the ability to address complex problems in health sciences. With regard to teaching methodologies, the review identified gamification, the flipped classroom, and collaborative learning as those with great potential to improve university students' experiences in learning biochemistry.
