Resumen

Polymers of petrochemical origin used in industries have caused different damages to nature. For this reason, more environmentally friendly ways have been sought to replace them, with biopolymers being the ideal replacement. This research reports statistical data on the research carried out in this area in a synthesized manner so that new researchers can direct their work in a specific area. From 2016 to 2023, it has been found that 1,292 documents of original articles have been published; of Reviews were 207, and of conference Papers were 80 documents. Among these, the researcher Selvasekarapandian S. stands out, with 30 documents published in the Scopus database, the most significant reach, and an H-index of 13. His contributions serve as a testament to the potential impact of new research in this field. The document with the most significant number of citations was titled "Natural emulsifiers - Biosurfactants, phospholipids, biopolymers, and colloidal particles: Molecular and physicochemical basis of functional performance"with a total of 486 citations, and the journal with the highest number of publications was International Journal of Biological Macromolecules from the Elsevier publishing house. It was also observed that the preferred languages for publishing are English, Russian, Chinese, and Spanish. On the other hand, India is the country that does the most research on biopolymers, and University Putra Malaysia has the highest number of publications. Likewise, it was observed that the curve of documents published during the period above is exponential, demonstrating the importance of this topic, which will be reported in 2023 alone, with 553 original research documents published in Scopus.
