Resumen
Tumor treatment remains one of the greatest challenges in modern medicine due to resistance to conventional therapies and the need for more precise, sustainable, and less invasive approaches. In this context, microbial fuel cells (MFCs) applied to nanotechnology are emerging as a promising alternative for bioelectrochemical therapy, as they enable the generation of electrical and chemical gradients capable of modulating the tumor microenvironment and activating localized therapeutic mechanisms. To map the scientific development in this field, a bibliometric analysis was conducted using 546 documents retrieved from the Scopus database, processed with RStudio and VOSviewer, which allowed the identification of publication patterns, collaboration networks, and the most influential sources. The results reveal sustained growth in scientific output since 2003, with a peak in 2021 that reflects the consolidation of the field.Among the most influential journals, Biosensors and Bioelectronics stands out with 87 articles and 1,682 citations, establishing itself as the main dissemination channel.Regarding authors, Bruce E. Logan leads the co-authorship network, while institutions such as Nanjing Tech University and Universidade Federal de Lavras rank highest in academic output. At the international level, China, India, and the United States are positioned as the most active and collaborative countries in this area. These findings highlight an expanding interdisciplinary ecosystem where biotechnology, nanotechnology, and experimental oncology converge.Looking ahead, future trends point toward the development of more efficient MFCs through advanced nanomaterials, artificial intelligence, and hybrid diagnostic-therapy platforms, consolidating their role in precision medicine.
