Beyond pills and profits: Corpol’s journey of resilience, legacy, and tomorrow’s pharma landscape

Cáceres C.; Cangahuala G.; Pachas C.; Cavero D.; Tello A.; Echevarría M.F. · Family Business Sustainability Case Studies Across the World (2025) · DOI: 10.4337/9781035339259.00013

Resumen

This case study examines Corpol, a Peruvian family-owned pharmaceutical company, and its journey from a small pharmacy to a major industry distributor. Founded during Peru’s political and economic instability, the Olórtegui Quispe family, led by José and Aleja, opened “Botica Fiorela” in 1997, setting the stage for Corpol’s future success. As the company grew, the founders’ children, especially Cecilia, the current board president, took on leadership roles, embodying the family’s values of unity, respect, and entrepreneurship. Despite legislative changes and rigorous inspections, Corpol achieved significant financial growth and expanded its product range. The COVID-19 pandemic underscored Corpol’s ability to quickly adapt to market demands. Now, with economic and social sustainability attained, Cecilia faces the challenge of environmental sustainability amidst strict regulations. This study explores whether Corpol can maintain its commitment to the Triple Bottom Line and achieve comprehensive sustainability, reflecting on the company’s resilience and future aspirations. © The Editors and Contributing Authors Severally 2025.
