Between Productivity and Ethics: Adoption of Artificial Intelligence by University Students in Educational and Entrepreneurial Processes

Portales-Pairazaman M.; Lujan-Torres J.; Tapay-Paredes G.; Ulloa-Siccha J. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2025) · DOI: 10.18687/leird2025.1.1.541

Resumen

This article aims to analyze the perceptions, uses, and challenges associated with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in academic and entrepreneurial contexts by undergraduate university students. Through a qualitative methodology supported by empirical evidence, qualitative data were collected from six focus group sessions (n = 40), complemented by quantitative data from a questionnaire applied to 125 students enrolled in programs related to management, engineering, and business. Additionally, a systematic literature review was conducted in the Scopus database, identifying 68 scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025. The findings reveal a broad instrumental appropriation of AI by students, who frequently use it for text generation, digital content creation, and entrepreneurial idea development. However, the study also uncovers concerns regarding technological dependency, ethical ambiguity in educational contexts, and the lack of critical thinking about how algorithms function and their broader implications. The qualitative analysis identified four subcategories: functional academic use, creative idea generation, normative ambiguity, and reduction of autonomous thinking. The study concludes that although AI represents a valuable opportunity to enhance productivity, innovation, and youth entrepreneurship, its responsible use requires educational frameworks that incorporate ethical, critical, and pedagogical components. It is recommended that AI-related content be integrated into university curricula and that institutions develop policies to guide and regulate its application in educational and professional settings. © LEIRD 2025.All rights reserved.
