Resumen
This article aims to analyze the approach of peruvian school books to the War of the Pacific (1879-1883), war which pitted Peru, Bolivia, and Chile against each other. In this vein, the article will primarily examine how these school books—produced between 1887 and 1969—addressed the territorial problem that resulted from the war. The core of this territorial problem was the sovereignty of the Peruvian provinces of Tacna and Arica, which had become Chilean-occupied territories. Furthermore, this study proposes that these school books, when discussing the complex and sensitive issue of territorial loss after the war, show a transition that goes from memory to history, ultimately culminating in a proposal for a National History.
